Why IOU App
Imagine you lend a book, tools, clothes, cables, anything else or even small amounts of money to family, friends, neighbours or work colleagues - both of you kind of forget and you never hear about it again, delays in returns etc. Annoying...
The IOU App creates a virtual representation of a lend or borrow (or any other obligation) to help you track and manage your items.
How it works
- 1. Create a new IOU containing info on the borrowed item, the borrower and a return date.
- 2. Borrower is sent a message and asked to accept the IOU and acknowledge the item has been borrowed.
- 3. The IOU app then lists all your items lent and borrowed and helps you to manage them by sending reminders or extending return dates.
- 4. You can close the IOU when the item is returned or even decide to gift the item to the borrower.
- 5. The IOU app will also record all IOU related messages in the app so you can keep a trail of the communication around your lending and borrowing.

Sign Up
We require a mobile number and email address for user authentication, for notifications and two-factor-authentication (OTP PIN).
Creating a new IOU
Choose to initiate an IOU as a lender or as a borrower.
An IOU consists of three key pieces of information:
- the borrower or lender details (depending on whether you are lending or borrowing),
- some details on the item being lent out, and
- the expected return date for the item.
Once the IOU has been created, the app will notify the borrower of the pending IOU. The borrower can then accept or decline the IOU. If accepted the transaction will be added to both the lender and borrower’s list of IOU's and can be managed from there.
Note: If the request for IOU is declined by the borrower the app will keep a record but we ask you to resolve the dispute offline for the time being. We do not offer dispute resolution.

My IOU's
The My IOU's section lists the pending, open and overdue IOU's and offers various actions either the lender or the borrower can take (depending on the stage of the IOU) such as Send a Reminder, Close the IOU, Gift the Item, etc.
Voucher
Each IOU is visually represented by a 'IOU voucher', which can be printed or shared for your records / convenience.
Inventory
This section lists the various items you have lent out or have available to lend. An item involved in an open IOU cannot be lent out again until the existing IOU is closed. Once closed the inventory item can be reused to create a new IOU with somebody else. Details of the inventory items differ according to the category - for instance, for books there is an ISBN barcode scanner and lookup to make the capturing of the book's details easier.
Messages
The Messages section keeps a record of all the actions and communications related to the IOU. Some messages are system generated depending on the action from the lender or borrower, but you can send custom messages as well.
A trail of all messages related to an IOU will be available (to both the lender and the borrower) for your records, even after an IOU is closed.
Profile & Settings
In these sections you can customise your profile (e.g. an avatar or photo) and IOU / communication settings. The settings relate to automated reminder messages sent to the borrower and to which page to open the App on.
